When the Indian sage Ramana Maharshi was asked, “How should we treat others?,” he replied, “There are no others.” This is the starting premise for our experience together. What we see as other is only a projection of what we have rejected in ourselves. We may feel repelled by certain ideas and perspectives, but we are unwittingly dancing with them, as shadow dances with light, always remaining connected. We suffer to the extent that our thoughts and perspectives feel separate from others and from Nature—and we are healed to the extent we perceive them as emanating from the same, original source.

The 3-day retreat begins with the sacred ritual of breaking bread together at the historic Mabel Dodge Luhan house (known for their gourmet meals); we continue with storytelling, dialogue, dreamwork, and contemplative time with Nature. The second day will begin with Glenn Aparicio Parry addressing subjects from Original Thinking and his new book (in progress) Sacred Politics, and then the remainder of the time will be devoted to group processes.

In this retreat, everywhere we turn is our teacher. Whether in dialogue, silent communion with Nature; or in the sharing of dreams—we practice the art of deep listening—and we potentially discover a myriad of ways in which we are all fed from the same, sacred source. The practice and realization of this truth has the potential to transform the way we think, the way we communicate, and the way we act and perceive political action in the world. It has the potential to align our thoughts and action with the pulse of nature and to be enormously healing. And it can also be fun.

Glenn Aparicio Parry, PhD, is the author of the Nautilus award-winning book Original Thinking: A Radical Revisioning of Time, Humanity, and Nature (North Atlantic Books, 2015), and is currently working on a new book Sacred Politics, which both revisions the political history of the United States and provides guidelines for future healing. Parry is an educator, speaker, and eco-psychologist whose life-long passion is to reform thinking into a coherent, cohesive, whole. The founder and past president of the SEED Institute, Parry is currently the director of a grass-roots think tank, the Circle for Original Thinking.  He earned his BA in Psychology from Allegheny College and then went on to earn both his MA in East-West Psychology and his PhD in Humanities with a concentration in Transformative Learning from the California Institute of Integral Studies.
